Ingredient and Product Testing and Safety

Consumers around the world trust our brands to deliver the best beauty performance and to do so safely. All of us at The Estée Lauder Companies consider this our highest priority and work every day to deliver on that promise. Our products are safe to use as intended.

Product safety starts with the high quality of ingredients and the most up-to-date research along with a safety review process that includes the evaluation and testing of ingredients and finished products. Here is how it works:

Before a product is developed:

  1. Our toxicologists and safety experts assess the safety of all ingredients before they can be used in our products.
  2. We draw on the latest peer-reviewed scientific research and refer to government-supplied lists of chemicals for information regarding ingredient restrictions.
  3. We comply with all legal limits on the use of ingredients. Our Regulatory Affairs team tracks changes in laws and regulations and our scientists monitor the latest scientific research. All products made and sold by The Estée Lauder Companies are safe to use as intended. In order to establish product safety we use the most advanced non-animal testing methods available.

Once a product has been developed, we meet the highest safety standards through a well-established and robust three-step process that reviews the design and development of each product to:

  1. Review every raw material for safety and compliance.
  2. Evaluate all formulas before release to market to assure they meet the highest standards of safety; this may include in vitro (artificial) and clinical laboratory testing.
  3. Monitor product safety performance through ongoing feedback from consumers.

All of the ingredients present in our products are recognized as safe by the international regulatory boards governing cosmetics, and we will continue to comply with new or amended regulations regarding the ingredients used in our products ensuring our over-arching commitment to product safety.

We are committed to selling safe products and work diligently to ensure that our products and packaging meet the standards put forth by global governmental, regulatory, and scientific bodies, as well as our own exceedingly high quality assurance standards.
